AHPC Participates in the 2026 Rotary Cancer Run at Kololo

The Allied Health Professionals Council (AHPC) joined thousands of Ugandans, health professionals, partners and well-wishers at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on 30 August 2026 for the 2026 Rotary Cancer Run.
AHPC staff and allied health professionals participated in the event to demonstrate solidarity with cancer patients, survivors, families and communities affected by the disease. Their participation also reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to public health awareness, social responsibility and the protection of the public.
Running to Improve Cancer Care
Participation in the 2026 Rotary Cancer Run went beyond physical fitness and fundraising. The event supported efforts towards the completion and equipping of a modern Cancer Treatment Centre at Nsambya Hospital.
Funds raised through the initiative are intended to support:
- Completion of the Nsambya Cancer Treatment Centre;
- Construction and completion of specialised radiation bunkers;
- Purchase and installation of Linear Accelerator (LINAC) radiotherapy equipment;
- Establishment of specialised diagnostic and cancer-treatment facilities; and
- Continued cancer awareness, screening and early-detection activities.
Once completed and equipped, the centre is expected to strengthen access to specialised cancer diagnosis and treatment services, thereby restoring hope to patients and families affected by cancer.
The wider Rotary Cancer Programme complements this investment by promoting cancer awareness, early diagnosis, treatment infrastructure and the development of skilled cancer-care professionals.

Advancing Public Health Awareness
As the statutory body responsible for regulating and controlling the practice, education and training of allied health professionals in Uganda, AHPC recognises that protecting the public extends beyond professional regulation. It also requires active participation in initiatives that promote disease prevention, early diagnosis, health education and access to quality healthcare.
Cancer outcomes are significantly influenced by the stage at which the disease is identified. Increased awareness, regular screening and timely access to qualified health professionals can improve the likelihood of early diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
Through its participation in the Cancer Run, AHPC encouraged members of the public to adopt healthier lifestyles, undertake recommended health checks and promptly seek professional medical attention whenever they experience unusual or persistent health changes.
Allied health professionals also play an essential role across the cancer-care pathway, including laboratory diagnosis, medical imaging, radiotherapy, rehabilitation, nutrition, psychosocial support and community health education.
United in the Fight Against Cancer
The 2026 Rotary Cancer Run brought together individuals and institutions from different backgrounds around a shared purpose: preventing cancer, strengthening treatment services and standing with people whose lives have been affected by the disease.
AHPC appreciates its staff, allied health professionals, organisers, partners and members of the public who participated in and supported this important national cause.
The Council remains committed to working with stakeholders to promote public health awareness, strengthen access to quality allied health services and contribute to a healthier and safer Uganda.
